Women volunteers are needed to serve as group guides for attendees of the 18th annual Expanding Your Horizons conference for seventh- and eighth-grade girls on Friday, Nov. 17, on S&T’s campus. Guides will help student groups navigate campus.

The Curtis Laws Wilson Library is now accepting submissions for the Fall 2017 Student Art Exhibition, which will run Monday, Oct. 23, through Friday, Dec. 8. Art submissions are due by Monday, Oct. 16. All currently enrolled students are eligible to submit up to three original works for consideration.

The S&T Store is ready for the university’s career fair on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The store’s supplies include padfolios, resume paper, pens and dress shirts.

There is a natural gas leak in Rolla near Vienna Road and Vichy Road. The roads surrounding the leak are being closed while Ameren Energy deals with the leak.  Rolla Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Ameren is on site. There is no danger, but students, staff and faculty who live in the area may be inconvenienced by road closures.

The campus community is invited to a retirement reception for Vicki Gibbons, 2-3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, in the atrium of Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. The event was previously scheduled at a later time in a different building. The day of the reception, Sept. 22, remains unchanged.

Garrett Coffey will present “Welcoming our Veterans on Campus — SVRC and the Resources,” noon-1:30 p.m. Monday Sept. 25, in Room 208 Norwood Hall. Coffey is a student support specialist for S&T’s Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC).

Instructors are invited to the annual Curators’ Teaching Summit’s first session at 12:15-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. The topic is “Teaching Undergraduate and Graduate Students — What’s the Difference?” It will feature presentations by Curators’ Distinguished Professors. Graduate students also will share their perspectives. All instructors are welcome. Lunch will be provided. Reserve your spot online.

On the hit TV show, “Shark Tank,” entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to investors. At Missouri S&T’s Miner Tank, faculty and staff will pitch proposals for innovative projects to the Missouri S&T Innovation Team. Here are some key dates for the next Miner Tank:

• Innovation proposals are due by Friday, Sept. 29. Submit your proposal online.
• PowerPoint presentations are due by Monday, Oct. 2. Email your PowerPoint to Rose Horton, executive director of strategy, institutional research and assessment, at hortonrm@mst.edu.
• The Fall Miner Tank will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center.

University Police will assist with traffic as approximately 60 military vehicles roll through Rolla on Highway 63 (Bishop Avenue) around noon tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 20). The convoy is part of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association’s trip on Historic Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, with a detour planned tomorrow on U.S. 63 to local VFW Post 2025.
