Registration is open for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 15. Missouri S&T students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in service projects throughout the local community 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and attend a celebration lunch 1-2 p.m. on campus. Fundraising gets hairy, goes casual for ‘Shop with a Cop’

University Police officers and staff are participating in “No Shave November” or “Jeanvember” to help raise funds for Phelps County’s Shop with a Cop program. Missouri S&T police officers and department staff members make a donation to either not shave or to wear jeans during November. With the raised funds, local offices take children holiday shopping in December. To donate to Shop with a Cop, please stop by S&T’s police department on the ground floor of the Campus Support Facility or contact Chief Doug Roberts.

Leach Theatre Box Office to close Nov. 23-24

During Thanksgiving week, the Leach Theatre Box Office will be open during regular hours (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) Monday, Nov. 20, through Wed., Nov. 22. The box office will be closed on Thanksgiving, Nov. 23, and the following day, Friday, Nov. 24. It will reopen with regularly scheduled hours on Monday, Nov. 27, for the theater’s “Black Monday” sale.

Death of student reported

Missouri S&T student Ryan Lewis, 19, of DeSoto, Missouri, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, as a result of injuries sustained from a fall at Thomas Jefferson Hall. He was a freshman in computer engineering.

Curators approve plans to move forward on Biosciences Complex

The third and final phase of the Biosciences Complex at Missouri S&T is included in the list of major construction and renovation projects approved by the University of Missouri System Board of Curators on Nov. 10. The curators’ approval of this project — further renovation and expansion of Schrenk Hall, which houses the chemistry and biological sciences departments — means it is now on a short list of capital projects that includes a project from each University of Missouri System campus and MU Health Care, or five projects in all. These projects will be further evaluated for consideration at a March 2018 meeting of the Board of Curators Finance Committee. Get more details.

Maples to continue as interim chancellor through May 2019

University of Missouri System President Mun Y. Choi has announced that Dr. Christopher G. Maples, interim chancellor of Missouri S&T since May 2017, will continue to serve in that capacity through May 31, 2019. Maples’ original appointment was for one year. The UM System Board of Curators approved the extension of his appointment during the board’s meeting on Nov. 10 at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Read more.
