Staff Council seeks volunteers to help work booths and other areas during Staff Day Wednesday, May 17. The council also seeks basket donations from departments for a silent auction. Engaging, hands-on workshop activities are sought for the “Expanding Your Horizons in Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Technology” conference for seventh- and eighth-grade girls on Friday, Oct. 21, at Missouri S&T. The goal is to encourage participants to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Each workshop will be about an hour. Presenters can include faculty members, students or student organizations and staff members.

The event brings more than 450 students to campus, helping seventh- and eighth-grade girls learn about careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Researchers investigating alternate work zone signage configurations for the Missouri Department of Transportation are looking for volunteers to participate in a driving simulator study. The project investigates the attitudes and response of drivers to different traffic sign configurations as they pass through a simulated representation of a standard Missouri work zone. Participants will receive a $10 gift card once they complete the driving simulation. Dr. Suzanna Long, interim chair and an associate professor of engineering management and systems engineering, is the primary investigator.

This year’s Staff Day theme is “Let’s have a ball.” Staff Council would like to visit your department and challenge you to your favorite office sports game for the Staff Day video. Is it wastepaper basketball? Or maybe coffee cup golf? Council members can visit Tuesday, March 25, through Thursday, March 27, to film. If you want to be in the Staff Day video, contact Michelle Mehmert. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions; members of Staff Council are available to visit departments, answer questions and get feedback.
