Last PRO session Aug. 16

The final Preview, Registration and Orientation (PRO) session for 2014 will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in the Havener Center. Incoming students will learn about student life, meet with their advisors, take the math placement exam and register for fall classes. After attending PRO, new students will participate in Opening Week activities to prepare for the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 25. Opening week is quickly approaching

Opening Week, a week of academics, interactive programs and fun, begins when more than 1,300 new freshmen participate in the “New Student Move-In” on Saturday, Aug. 16. Activities continue through Saturday, Aug. 23.

New student transfer transitions

Transfer transition will start at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. New transfer students will have the opportunity to participate in a design project and competition. Students will meet faculty and staff in their departments and learn about campus life. Welcome the new transfer students when they visit your office. The day concludes with a recognition dinner for our new students. New student programs is pleased to announce that Union Pacific will once again sponsor the 2014 Opening Week’s Project X. Union Pacific will have representatives on campus during Opening Week to assist our new students with programs and judging their projects. 1,300 new students will attend Opening Week, which starts Saturday, Aug. 16.

The Spirit of Change movement

The Spirit of Change is a movement of students inspiring students. Whether it is a free cup of coffee or an umbrella in the rain, the Blue Key Honors Society inspires other students by performing random acts of kindness throughout the semester. Fundraising takes place for the Spirit of Change during Opening Week and the first week of school.

New name for communications

In keeping with the university’s emphasis on marketing and brand development through the strategic plan, the department formerly known as communications is now the department of marketing and communications. Under Lever 2.4 of the strategic plan, marketing and communications is responsible for coordinating campuswide efforts to raise Missouri S&T’s visibility and convey the university’s return on investment to key customer groups.
