Donate to GRACE
Staff Council is sponsoring a food and toy drive for GRACE (Greater Rolla Area Community Enterprise). GRACE provides food, clothing and toys for the less fortunate in the local community every year. Assistance is provided to over 700 families in Phelps County. Collection boxes can be found in most campus buildings between Monday, Nov. 10, and Monday, Dec. 1. Boxes will be picked up on Dec. 1 and delivered to GRACE. Monetary donations are also accepted and may be given to any Staff Council member or a campus building coordinator. All money that is donated to the United Way of South Central Missouri stays in the area to help our neighbors in need. Packets containing pledge cards and payroll deduction forms are being distributed through campus mail. Additional information is also available online. You can contribute by check, credit card or payroll deduction. The campus has a long history of supporting the United Way and your help will be greatly appreciated.

A funeral service for Scott Parker will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Dent County Memorial Chapel, 103 West Center St. in Salem, Missouri. Visitation will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the service. Parker, research engineering technician I in civil, architectural and environmental engineering, died on Saturday, Nov. 8.

The MAE graduate seminar series presents “Origami and Engineering? Surprising Opportunities for Devices with Unprecedented Performance,” a talk by Dr. Larry L. Do you know students who struggle with test anxiety? Let them know that counseling, disability support and student wellness will present a two-session workshop to help manage anxiety and perform better academically. Read More »Geothermal system ribbon-cutting
Missouri S&T will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of its geothermal energy system at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, on the lawn adjacent to the east side of McNutt Hall. That portion of McNutt Hall showcases a fully operational geothermal energy plant. Tours of the facility will be available following the ceremony. The project, which began more than four years ago, is one of the most comprehensive projects of its kind ever undertaken by a college or university.

The iGEM Design Team will lead a demonstration of DNA extraction as a part of the One Book Program’s series of events at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in St. Pat’s Ballrooms A and B of the Havener Center. The current One Book selection, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, deals explicitly with genomic research and DNA. The iGEM team members will explain the nature of DNA research and lead participants in a hands-on demonstration that actually results in DNA extraction. The event is free and open to the public.
