eConnection returns to normal schedule

Starting Monday, Aug. 24, the faculty and staff eConnection will return to its regular schedule of Monday and Thursday morning distribution. Submission deadlines are 3 p.m. the day before they are published. The eConnection will maintain this schedule until after the end of the semester. Continue to submit your campus news to the eConnection, student-based announcements to the student eConnection and remember to submit campus events to the campus calendar.

Concrete and composites seminar Aug. 28

The Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies (CIES) invites the campus community to attend a research seminar at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, in Room 318 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. The seminar, titled “Bond Behavior Between Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) Composites and Concrete: State-of-the-Art and New Challenges,” will be given by Dr. Christian Carloni, an associate professor of structural mechanics at the University of Bologna in Italy.

Visit the Writing Center for support

The Writing Center‘s mission is to help Missouri S&T students become better writers, and it provides support for instructors who believe that strong writing skills are crucial to academic and professional success. It is open for tutoring beginning Monday, Aug. 31, and its staff are available to make 10-minute class presentations introducing students to tutoring services. The center also offers comprehensive presentations and workshops on specific writing-related topics and its website provides links to numerous resources. Merfeld-Langston to teach American Communication Skills

Dr. Irina Ivliyeva, associate professor of Russian, has stepped down from teaching American Pronunciation after 15 years in the position. She will continue to provide the cultural orientation for the GTA Workshop and serve as the department’s senior assessor. Dr. Audra Merfeld-Langston, associate professor of French, will teach the course, which is now known as American Communication Skills.

Funeral information for Charles Irwin

Charles Irwin, former supervisor of computing and information services at Missouri S&T, died Thursday, Aug. 6. Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the First Baptist Church, 801 N. Cedar St. in Rolla. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Null and Son Funeral Home.

Irwin worked for Missouri S&T for 32 years, retiring in 2001.

Test drive a Ford, support robotics

The Missouri S&T Robotics Team and Ford Motor Co. are helping the Rolla High School Robotics Team raise funds to purchase equipment for its new location at the Kaleidoscope Discovery Center. Sakelaris Ford Lincoln of Rolla will have new Ford vehicles available for test drive 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Rolla High School Parking Lot. Ford will donate $20 to the team for every test drive

Fitness classes offered at the Student Recreation Center

Did you know that the Student Recreation Center offers Fitness Classes? We offer classes such as Zumba, Yoga, Bollywood, and now an Irish Step Dance Class. Schedules are available online.  Students can take any class they would like to at no additional cost. Faculty, staff and dependents can purchase passes for $15 for 10 classes and $25 for 20 classes.
