Opening Week, a week of academics, interactive programs and fun, begins when over 1,500 new freshmen participate in the “New Student Move-In” on Saturday, Aug. 15. Activities continue through Saturday, Aug. 22.

Effective Thursday, Aug. 6, student diversity, outreach and women’s programs (SDOWP) will be located at 605 West 11th St. in Rolla. The move will delay email and phone call returns on that day. The office will resume regular availability on Friday, Aug. 7. Visit its website for information regarding the department as well as a future open house.

The undergraduate advising office will feature three presentations by Missouri S&T faculty and staff this fall semester as part of its academic advising conference series.

The campus community is invited to attend three open interviews for the program administrator position this week. Interviews will take place 10-10:50 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5; Thursday, Aug. 6; and Friday, Aug. 7, in the Ozark Room of the Havener Center. Each candidate will provide a 20-minute presentation with an additional 30 minutes for questions.

International and cultural affairs invites all new and current international students to participate in the annual New International Student Welcome Picnic 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Schuman Park’s lower pavilion. Faculty and staff are also invited to attend and help the department extend a warm welcome to recently arrived international students. Transfer transition will start at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. New transfer students will have the opportunity to participate in a design project and competition, meet faculty and staff in their departments and learn about campus life. Welcome the new transfer students when they visit your office. The day concludes with a recognition dinner for our new students. The S&T Store will participate in a tax holiday Aug. 7-9, both in-store and online. Shoppers can save on qualifying Miner technology, clothing and supplies.

The final Preview, Registration and Orientation (PRO) session for 2015 will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, in the Havener Center. Incoming students will learn about student life, meet with their S&T advisors, take the math placement exam and register for fall classes. After attending PRO, new students will participate in Opening Week activities to prepare for the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 24. Union Pacific will once again sponsor Project X — the Opening Week team project for all new freshmen. Union Pacific will have representatives on the campus Opening Week to assist our new students with programs and to judge their projects. New students who attend Opening Week, which starts Saturday, Aug. 15, will be divided into 85 mentor groups and will have the opportunity to create a vehicle which will be judged on several objectives — design, creativity, presentation and journal. The week finishes on Friday, Aug. 21, with awards given out to the top teams. The awards ceremony will be held at 9:30 p.m. Friday in the Havener Center.

The Spirit of Change is a movement of students inspiring students. Whether it is a free cup of coffee or an umbrella in the rain, the Blue Key Honor Society inspires other students by performing random acts of kindness throughout the semester. Fundraising takes place for the Spirit of Change during Opening Week and the first week of school.
