Attend a Miner Tank open forum Feb. 4

The campus community is invited to the Miner Tank to see presenters sell their innovative ideas to the Missouri S&T Innovation Team 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. Presenters will have six minutes to pitch their proposal, which will be followed by a four-minute question-and-answer session. Light refreshments will be served.

Miners for Recovery seeks input

Counseling, disability support and student wellness is working to improve programs and services for students in recovery for alcohol and drug use. To do so, the department is seeking faculty and staff in recovery to help it brainstorm on how to create, develop and implement programs and services. If you are in recovery and would like to volunteer your input, please email Miners for Recovery at m4r@mst.edu. Staff will make every effort to keep all participation confidential.

‘Caught in the Act’ update

“Caught in the Act,” a Healthy for Life activity, is now under way. Fourteen employees have been nominated from S&T for practicing Random Acts of Wellness. The winner from Week 1 is Becky Callen, who was nominated by Sara Lewis. Callen will receive a yoga ball, which can be used as a piece of ergonomic equipment. There are many employees out there practicing random acts of wellness, so be sure to nominate them.

Engaging constituencies

As part of Missouri S&T’s ongoing commitment to ensuring open lines of communication, Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader is forming a new group this spring called the Chancellor’s Council. The council, made up of representatives of faculty, staff, students and administration, will meet regularly to vet new university policies and discuss other issues of interest.

‘The Liberator’ opens Hispanic Film Series Jan. 29

The 2016 Hispanic Film Series starts Friday, Jan. 29, with a screening of The Liberator at 7 p.m. in Room 103 Engineering Management Building. This is the second year in a row that the arts, languages, and philosophy department has received a grant to bring a series of Hispanic films to Missouri S&T. As part of the series, five films will be screened free of charge on Friday nights during the spring semester. All films are in Spanish with English subtitles.

COER hosts student events Feb. 2-3

Career opportunities and employer relations will host two events next week to help students get their first job after college. Mike McEnery, a 1985 electrical engineering graduate and president of McEnery Automation Corp., will present “Conquer the Career Fair” at noon Tuesday, Feb. 2, in Room 305 Norwood Hall.

AT&T representatives will present “Acing Your Interview” at noon Wednesday, Feb. 3, in Room 305 Norwood Hall. Students should bring their Missouri S&T I.D. to both sessions.

Surplus to hold garage sale Jan. 29

Missouri S&T’s surplus property will have a public garage sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at the warehouse at 301 N. Bishop Ave. in Rolla. Items will include bicycles, laptop computers, desktop computers, chairs, three-ring binders, notebooks, keyboards, electronics, tables, desk, pictures, file cabinets and more. Sales must be paid in cash only; personal checks and credit cards are not accepted. For more information, call 341-6150. The department does not answer the phone during the sale day and may not answer it a few days prior, as they are preparing for the sale.

Student Veterans Resource Center opens

The Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) is now open for business near campus. The center is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, on the ground floor of the Baptist Student Union, located at the corner of 10th Street and South Bishop Avenue. The SVRC was a coordinated effort spearheaded by members of the Student Veterans Association and supported by student success programs. The center was formed to help ensure that every veteran is be able to obtain educational success.
