The final Preview, Registration and Orientation (PRO) session for 2016 will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, in the Havener Center. Incoming students will learn about student life, take the math placement exams, meet with their S&T advisor and register for fall classes. Transfer Transition, an orientation day for new transfer students, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. New transfer students will participate in a project and competition, meet faculty and staff from their departments and learn about S&T campus life. Help welcome these students when they visit your office. The day will conclude with a recognition dinner sponsored by Union Pacific. International and cultural affairs is currently hosting a group of seven students and one administrator from Mazoon University College of Oman. Students are participating in classes and cultural activities designed to improve their communication skills and to experience the American lifestyle, and would be happy to meet with any faculty or students to share their experiences. Parking Area A Lot 4 and Area C Lot 18 will be open and available for parking starting tomorrow morning (Thursday, July 28). The lots were previously closed for repairs and resealing.

This week, construction will begin outside McNutt Hall to seal the foundation of the building to prevent water leaks. Comments from Malcolm Townes, associate director for Missouri S&T’s office of technology transfer and economic development (TTED), and Vera Anderson, senior licensing and business development associate with TTED, were featured in an article in the July 2016 edition of Technology Transfer Tactics, a leading industry publication. The article, titled “TTOs Hunt for Investors, New Commercialization Opportunities in Overseas Markets,” discussed the growing number of international initiatives that university technology transfer offices (TTOs) are spearheading in an effort to capitalize on opportunities in overseas markets.

Kevin Wiginton, retired Oklahoma state trooper and husband of Michelle Wiginton, coordinator in distance and continuing education, died on Friday, July 22. A visitation supper will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 28, in the Lighthouse Worship Center, located at 2726 N. 9th Ave. in Purcell, Oklahoma. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1717 W Lindsey St. in Norman, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, a donation towards Kevin’s medical expenses would be appreciated by the family.
