eConnection returns to regular schedule

Starting next week, the faculty and staff eConnection will return to its regular schedule of Monday and Thursday morning distribution. Submission deadlines are 3 p.m. the day before they are published. The eConnection will maintain this schedule until after the end of the semester. Continue to submit your campus news to the eConnection, student-based announcements to the student eConnection and remember to submit campus events to the campus calendar.

TTED works to increase small business participation in funding opportunity

The office of technology transfer and economic development (TTED) at Missouri S&T is co-sponsoring the SBIR Road Tour, which will be held Thursday, Aug. 18, in St. Louis. The SBIR Road Tour is a national outreach effort to promote the non-dilutive technology funding opportunity provided through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.

Diane Brown, a grants and contracts administrator in the office of sponsored programs, died Saturday, Aug. 6. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. today (Monday, Aug. 8) at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 E. Third St. in Dixon, Mo. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Passing of Dr. Roman Dwilewicz

Dr. Roman J. Dwilewicz, professor of mathematics and statistics at S&T, died on Friday, July 29. Visitation will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Null and Son Funeral Home, located at 1010 Kingshighway in Rolla. A funeral service will follow the visitation, conducted by Rev. David Veit, pastor of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Parish.

Melanie Mormile named associate provost of faculty affairs

Dr. Melanie Mormile, professor of biological sciences, was appointed associate provost of faculty affairs in July. In her newly expanded role, Mormile will continue to assist the provost’s office with faculty and workload assignment, promotion and tenure policy, and other matters in faculty affairs. She also will represent Provost Robert Marley on various committees and at events, including working directly with academic affairs officials at the University of Missouri System and on other UM campuses.

Teaching partners program can help improve classroom effectiveness

The Teaching Partners program brings together instructors who want to improve their effectiveness in the classroom with experienced colleagues who offer confidential assistance and expertise. Schedule a time for fall observation today by going to the Teaching Partners webpage and completing a brief online form. The program consists of at least one peer observation of teaching during the semester and can be used to improve interaction with students, communication style, use of technology or to troubleshoot other classroom issues.
