Dr. Susan Flader, a professor emerita of environmental and western history at the University of Missouri-Columbia, will present “Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites: Challenges for our Time,” at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in Room 121 Butler-Carlton Hall.
Flader was a founder and president of the American Society for Environmental History and the Missouri Parks Association. She led efforts to secure and renew the state’s Parks, Soil and Water Sales Tax, which led to a renaissance of Missouri’s state parks.
Flader edited and co-authored the book, “Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites: Exploring Our Legacy.” Copies of the book will be available for sale at a discounted price and Flader will sign them. The event is sponsored by the history and political science department and the Environmental Research Center.
