All are welcome to attend “Poetry is Power: Race and Patriotism in American Poetry” 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center. The event will highlight a series of 20^th-century African-American poems focused on complicated issues of America, patriotism, citizenship and race relations. A dessert reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., and student performances of spoken word and song will begin at 7 p.m.

There is an emergency appeal for O- and O+ blood types and a shortage for all other blood types in the local supply. Volunteers may give at the Havener Center in the St. Pat’s Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day from Tuesday, Jan. 31, to Friday, Feb. 3.

10SharesDr. Tim Philpot, associate professor of structural engineering in the civil, architectural and environmental engineering department, died Wednesday (Jan. 25, 2017). No immediate memorial service is planned. The family plans to hold a celebration of his life at a later date.

Following cleaning efforts, the ground floor of the east side of Emerson Hall is now open, in addition to the west side of Emerson Hall, which opened for classes at the start of the spring semester. The first and second floors of the east side of Emerson Hall will remain closed until further notice.
