Instructors will receive an email with a link for summer and fall textbook adoptions on Tuesday, March 7. Timely textbook adoptions mean more money for students at sell-back, less expensive textbooks and fully stocked shelves on the first day of class. The Miner Alumni Association’s Student Leadership Award Endowed Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship awarded to two students who demonstrate academic excellence, service to the campus and community, personal objectives and goals, potential and quality recommendations. Applications must be received through Academic Works by Thursday, April 6, 2017.

Do you know a Missouri S&T staff member who goes above his or her job duties? Faculty, staff and students can nominate an outstanding staff member to receive one of nine 2017 Staff Excellence Awards. Nominations are due Friday, April 6. Submit your nomination online or visit the Staff Council website, print the form and follow the directions on the form to submit it.

Because of persistent technological issues that caused unreliability, as well as unsustainable repair costs, the Center for Sustainability has retired the eBus. The eBus will no longer run daily shuttle services.

“The Center for Sustainability has been delighted to serve the campus community by providing environmentally friendly shuttle services with its research-based electric bus for the past three years,” says Stephane Menand, assistant director the Center for Sustainability. “We recognize the hardship this might create for some students, but we have exhausted all available options before coming to this difficult decision.”

Members of the Missouri S&T Steel Bridge Design Team along with faculty, staff and students in civil, architectural and environmental engineering, will host a campuswide tribute for Dr. Timothy Philpot. Philpot, associate professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at Missouri S&T, died unexpectedly from a stroke on Jan. 25. The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 3, in the Kummer Atrium of Butler-Carlton Hall. The event will include a short service with several speakers and a dedication of the team’s 2017 bridge.

The Missouri S&T Innovation Team has announced its fiscal year 2017 funding for innovation proposals presented at the Miner Tank competitions this academic year. Read more about these projects:

Missouri S&T’s Mars Rover Design Team will unveil Gryphon, this year’s student-built rover, at noon Friday, March 3, in the Havener Center atrium. After unveiling the rover, the team will host a meet-and-greet with team members and showcase parts and aspects of the vehicle. The team will compete at the Mars Society’s 2017 University Rover Challenge, held June 1-3 at the Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville, Utah. Approximately 30 university teams worldwide will compete at the event.

The Missouri S&T Observatory will open its doors at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, for viewing the moon through the university’s 16-inch-diameter telescope. Come see the pock-marked surface of the moon in surprising detail.
