Time change coming this weekend

Daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, which means it is time to “fall back” and set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday, Nov. 4. The facilities operations staff at Missouri S&T will begin adjusting clocks back one hour beginning at 4 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. If you are on campus on Saturday, you may notice the difference.

Seminar set on international experiential learning

The campus community is invited to a seminar on international experiential learning noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in Room 106 Engineering Management Building. The featured speaker is Dr. Audra Merfeld-Langston, associate professor and chair of arts, languages and philosophy. This seminar is part of a series for the project “Cultural Bridges: The Humanities and Engineering in Latin America,” which is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Roll up your sleeves, save lives at military blood drive

The Armed Services Blood Program will host a blood drive 1-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in Room 301 Harris Hall. It is open to everyone age 17 and older, both military and civilian. Blood collected at this drive will go directly to medical facilities in Afghanistan and other overseas contingency areas, as well as military hospitals throughout the Department of Defense. The Armed Services Blood Program is the official blood collection agency for the Department of Defense. The Fort Leonard Wood Blood Donor Center is one of 22 facilities around the world that collects blood for the ASBP.

New vegetarian entrée debuts at Zatar

Zatar Mediteranean Grill will feature a vegetarian Meze platter in November and through Friday, Dec. 15. The platter costs $4.19 and includes edamame basil hummus, baba ganoush (cooked eggplant with seasonings), quinoa tabbouleh (salad), pita bread, artichoke salad and a grilled vegetable kebab with feta cheese and tzatziki sauce. Zatar is located on Havener Center’s patio.

Tickets on sale for chili fundraiser

Lambda Sigma Pi, a women’s service organization, will host all-you-care-to-eat “Chili, Chips and Cheese” meal 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall, located at 17 St. Patrick Lane in Rolla. All proceeds will go to local charities.

Honor student artists at today’s reception

The Fall 2017 Student Art in the Library Exhibit will be open on the second floor of Curtis Laws Wilson Library from Monday, Oct. 30, through Friday, Dec. 8. Please visit the exhibit and vote for your favorite piece for the exhibit’s Peoples’ Choice Award. Artists will be honored during a reception at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the library.

Oct. 31 is deadline for annual training

To meet University of Missouri System’s annual training requirement, faculty and staff are required to pass mastery tests for two courses by midnight Tuesday, Oct. 31:

  • “Building a Foundation: Discrimination Prevention and Title IX” will take approximately one hour to complete. Visit umsystem.edu/ums/hr/ec_training to access the training in myLearn.
  • “MakeITSafe Information Security Awareness,” will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. To access the training, log in to myHR at myhr.umsystem.edu, click on the “Training and Performance” box, and then click “MakeITSafe Training.” You will be directed to a Skillsoft course titled, “Security Awareness for End Users.”

What can you make in Makerspace? Find out at open house

Students will host an open house for S&T’s Makerspace 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in Room G5 of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building (IDE).
