Students hosting bone marrow registry drive

Thousands of patients nationwide with leukemia, lymphoma, other blood cancers and severe sickle cell disease depend on the Be The Match registry to find a donor for their treatment. The St. Pat’s Committee and Love Your Melon student group will host a Be The Match bone marrow registry drive 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, and Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the commons area on the first floor of the Havener Center. Ashley Allegri, one of the students involved with Love Your Melon, has donated bone marrow through the Be The Match program and shares her story.
The drive is open to individuals age 18-44. Joining the registry takes approximately 15 minutes and a cheek swab sample. The matching process is based on race and DNA, not blood type.
