Library hosting digital commons conference

Curtis Laws Wilson Library is hosting the Digital Commons — Heartland Users Group conference today (Thursday, Oct. 12) and tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 13, at the Havener Center. This conference is dedicated to sharing ideas, innovations and best practices for institutional repositories. Attendees include representatives from academic institutions in Missouri and surrounding states.

Suicide awareness, prevention policy posted online

 Missouri S&T’s policy regarding suicide awareness and suicide prevention, Policy I-100, is available online. Interim Chancellor Chris Maples approved the policy on Aug. 28. The policy corresponds with and supports other federal, state and local efforts to provide suicide prevention education, early identification and intervention, and access to local resources that promote the health, safety and wellbeing of students, staff and faculty. The policy meets requirements of Senate Bill 52 of the Missouri legislature. View all S&T policy memoranda.

Celebrate Active Learning Day

The educational technology (EdTech) staff invites Missouri S&T faculty to show the unique ways you use active learning methods in your classroom. Active Learning Day will be observed Monday, Oct. 23. It is a nationwide movement to improve science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. Don’t turn into a pumpkin — finish your training by midnight Oct. 31

To meet annual training requirements, you must pass mastery tests for two courses by midnight Tuesday, Oct. 31:

  • “Building a Foundation: Discrimination Prevention and Title IX” will take approximately one hour to complete. Visit us/ectraining to access the training in myLearn.
  • “MakeITSafe Information Security Awareness,” will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. To access the training, log in to myHR at umsystem.edu, click on the “training and performance” section in the menu, and then click “MakeITSafe Training.” You will be directed to a Skillsoft course titled, “Security Awareness for End Users.”

The S&T Store will hold a grad fair 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, and Thursday, Oct. 19. Save 10 percent on caps and gowns, tassels and diploma frames.
