Libyan Night this Friday

The Libyan Students Association will host Libyan Night from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center. The event will include a fashion show, music and games, followed by a traditional Libyan dinner. Tickets are $10 at the door. For more information, email taa89b@mail.mst.edu.

Native American recognition trip

Leadership and cultural programs is sponsoring a trip to Missouri State University to see a Native American pow-wow in recognition of Native American Heritage Month on Saturday, Nov. 16. The day will begin at 9 a.m. with transportation provided leaving from the Havener Center with an approximate return time of 6:30 p.m. Meals and additional expenses will not be provided. Those interested in attending must sign up at lcprograms.mst.edu no later than Wednesday, Nov. 13.

EMSE chili and costume contest winners

Engineering management and systems engineering held its annual chili cook-off and Halloween costume contest on Thursday, Oct. 31. The department raised $330 for the Greater Rolla Area Community Enterprise (GRACE). Thanks to all those who came out to try a bowl of chili and thank the INCOSE Student Chapter for their help throughout the event. They would also like to thank Jesse Singleton, Lisa Strauser and Priscilla Winner, who were the chili and Halloween costume judges.

Open forum for academic leaders search

Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader invites the campus community to attend upcoming open forums regarding the search process for new campus leaders. During the forums, Dr. Schrader will outline where the university is at in the search process for specific positions and welcome input on what the university should be looking for in its next leaders.

Nominate adult learner for ACE award

Do you know someone who has used American Council on Education (ACE) credit recommendations and overcome great odds to pursue a degree? Help honor that achievement by nominating him or her to become ACE’s Adult Learner of the Year. ACE will honor the winner at its annual meeting next March in San Diego. This year’s Adult Learner of the Year will receive a $500 scholarship from ACE to continue his or her education.

Passing of James Wise

James N. Wise, professor emeritus in English and technical communication at S&T, died on Oct. 29. A memorial service will be announced in the future. Memorials are suggested to the Rolla Public Library Children’s Fund, or Lucy Wortham James Library in St. James, Mo.

Passing of Charles Carroll

Charles Frederic Carroll, father of Douglas R. Carroll, program director for S&T’s Cooperative Engineering Program with Missouri State University, died on Oct. 31. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, 3506 N. National in Springfield, Mo.

Annual community buffet lunch Nov. 19

The annual holiday community buffet lunch will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center. Tickets for the lunch are $11.
