Student Affairs reminds the campus community that Missouri S&T has a policy memorandum that provides guidance for the use of catering services on campus. Policy memorandum I-92 may be found online. The policy defines activities that are considered catering and provides the requirements for a vendor to cater events on the S&T campus. To provide catering services to the campus, a vendor must be an approved catering vendor.

There will be a power outage from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in Straumanis-James Hall. The outage will allow contractors time to energize the new geothermal plant. For more information, contact Ron Boggs at 341-4252.

Curtis Laws Wilson Library’s poster printing center will be closed Monday, Nov. 25, through Friday, Nov. 29, for Thanksgiving break. Regular business hours of 9 a.m.-4 p.m. will resume on Monday, Dec. 2.

The Intelligent Systems Center is sponsoring its ninth annual Poster Presentation from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the upper atrium of the Havener Center. ISC-supported students will display posters highlighting current research on one of the following areas: intelligent manufacturing processes, equipment and systems, intelligent cyber-physical systems, advanced simulation, sensing, control and communications, computational intelligence, and embedded systems.

Dr. Joseph W. Newkirk, associate professor of metallurgical engineering at S&T, was recently named a 2013 Fellow of Alpha Sigma Mu, the Materials Honor Society. He was honored at the society’s 2013 meeting in Montreal, Canada. The award is given to those who achieve a “seminal international standing in the materials science and engineering profession.” Newkirk is the faculty advisor to the local student chapter of Alpha Sigma Mu.
