The Center for Sustainability hosted the semi-annual meeting of the Missouri S&T Microgrid Industrial Consortium Jan. 12. The 29 attendees included consortium members, faculty researchers, students and guests. Dr. Pourya Shamsi, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, Dr. Fatih Dogan, professor of materials science and engineering, and students presented about research progress. Shamsi identified the opportunity to use consortium-member data in his model for selecting the optimum battery location and size within a microgrid. George Mues, manager of technology transfer at Ameren, agreed to host a meeting at Ameren on Jan. 19 to facilitate the gathering of the data for the model.
Read More »U.S. Army Garrison Fort Leonard Wood and Missouri S&T’s Center for Sustainability joined forces to research and implement new technologies on post. A memorandum of understanding, signed in December, identifies Fort Leonard Wood as a host installation for applied robotics and an autonomous electric bus pilot project. Missouri S&T and Fort Leonard Wood will work together to create this advanced technology demonstration capability. Fort Leonard Wood will support the initiative through coordination with on-post organizations for the use of installation infrastructure for testing and demonstration.

Read More »Research by Dr. Manashi Nath, associate professor of chemistry, and colleagues was featured on the cover of the journal ChemSusChem (Chemistry & Sustainability Energy & Materials). The research examines a low-cost and energy efficient way to split water into its elements of hydrogen and oxygen, which would make hydrogen fuel a more viable energy source in the future.
Read More »Dr. Francisca Oboh-Ikuenobe was one of two invited speakers featured at the Women in Geosciences and Engineering forum during the 34th annual meeting of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists in Lagos, Nigeria, on Nov. 16. Oboh-Ikuenobe is interim department chair of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering. Her presentation addressed: 1) areas of focus for technical advancement for women geoscientists; 2) opportunities for professional women in light of low oil prices; and 3) strategies for expanding technical abilities.

Huang is serving as a co-editor of a special journal issue on development of drug delivery systems, which will be published by the Biomedical Research International journal. Huang also serves as a reviewer for the e-book proposal, “A Potential Application of Nanotechnology,” managed by Bentham Science Publishers.
