Oerther selected to attend 2017 Fulbright alumni conference
Dr. Daniel Oerther, professor of civil, architectural, and environmental engineering, has been selected to participate in the U.S. Department of State Alumni Thematic International Exchange Seminar (Alum TIES) titled “The New Frontiers of Global Public Health.” The conference will be held Feb. 8-11 at Emory University and the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.

Amy Skyles participated in an expert panel discussion during the Online Lab Summit at the University of Arizona in Tucson, held Feb. 6. Skyles, an instructional designer in educational technology, was one of four panelists who discussed the implementation of online science labs.

The Missouri S&T iGEM team is featured on the American Society for Microbiology’s website in an article about a cloning competition, the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGem). S&T’s team, composed of approximately 50 members, is working to eradicate white-nose syndrome from bat populations.

Dr. Heng Pan was interviewed for an article, “3D Printing Has Potential to Create Wearable, Stretchable Electronic Devices,” by Laura Panjwani that was published Jan. 18 on the R&D Magazine site. Pan is an assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. In the article, he discussed stretchable electronics and additive manufacturing.

An article by Shannon Fogg, chair and professor of history and political science, is one of French Historical Studies’ five most-read article in 2016. The article is titled “‘They are Undesirables’: Local and National Responses to Gypsies during World War II.” French Historical Studies, the leading journal on the history of France, publishes articles and commentaries on all periods of French history from the Middle Ages to the present.

Dr. Patti J. Fleck co-authored “Bouncing Back: Resilience Skills You Can (And Should) Build Now” with Dr. Mary Chandler Bolin, director of counseling at University of Kentucky. The article was published as the cover story in the winter 2017 edition of Kappa Delta’s Angelos, the official magazine of the Kappa Delta sorority. Fleck is director of counseling, disability support and student wellness.

Dr. Harlan Anderson, Curators’ Professor Emeritus of Ceramic Engineering, recently received the High Temperature Materials Division Outstanding Achievement Award from the Electrochemical Society. Anderson’s research in insulating and conducting oxides has led to his recognition among the scientific community as a leading expert on electronic ceramics, solid oxide fuel cells and oxygen separation.

The Modern English Teacher journal recently published “Four-corner Vocabulary Chart,” an article by Dr. Thu Tran, senior academic advisor for the intensive English program in international and cultural affairs. Tran’s article was published in Vol. 26, Issue 1, 2017, of the publication for English language teachers.
