Mathematician to give presentations

The campus community is invited to attend two presentations by Dr. Jie Shen in March. Shen is an elected fellow of the American Mathematical Society, a professor of mathematics and director of the Center for Computational and Applied Mathematics at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He will present:

  • “Fast Spectral Methods: Algorithms, Analysis and Applications,” designed for a general audience, 4:20-5:20 p.m. (with refreshments at 4:10 p.m.), Monday, March 6, in Room 318 Butler-Carlton Hall
  • “Phase-field Models for Multiphase Complex Fluids: Modeling, Numerical Analysis and Simulations,” 4:20-5:20 p.m. (with refreshments at 4:10 p.m.), Tuesday, March 7, in Room 121 Butler-Carlton Hall

Fiscal training offered on employee reimbursements

University of Missouri System’s accounts payable shared services team will present “Employee Reimbursements in Travel and Expense Module” at two sessions Monday, March 13, in the Carver Room of the Havener Center. The training is designed for employees who work directly with these transactions, approve them or supervise employees who do. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Choose to attend training at 10-11:30 a.m. or 1-2:30 p.m. Register on the accounts payable shared services site.

Stolen bicycles recovered

University Police has recovered stolen bicycles and would like to return them to their owners. If your bicycle was stolen and you did not report it, please contact the department by email at police@mst.edu, by phone at 341-3000 or drop by the office in Room G10 Campus Support Facility. The police department is open 24/7. If you previously reported bicycle theft, you do not need to contact the department again; the police will notify you if your property is recovered.

Drink in some history at next Research on Tap

Dr. Larry Gragg, Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of history, will be the featured speaker at the next Research on Tap lecture at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at the Public House Brewing Co. Gragg will speak about Missouri S&T history in conjunction with the university’s upcoming sesquicentennial, or 150-year anniversary, in 2020.

Learn more about immigration-related executive orders

The campus community is invited to hear Miha Britt, attorney at Britt Immigration Law LLC, discuss the recent executive order related to immigration during “Building Bridges – Dialogue to Strengthen Community” at 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in Room B-10 Bertelsmeyer Hall. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask Britt questions about current policies and their legal implications related to higher education and international student visas. The event is sponsored by Missouri S&T’s international and cultural affairs office.

Learn about innovation outcomes on campus

The Office of Strategy, Planning and Assessment has released an outcomes booklet highlighting student, faculty and staff innovation proposals. These proposals were presented at the campus Miner Tank event in fiscal year 2016. Proposals included student design team projects, cancer research and more. Proposal funding was secured from the campus Innovation team. View the booklet.
