Open casting calls in April seek students, faculty

Know any “All-Star” Miners? Encourage them to come to an open casting call in April for a chance to be featured in upcoming university promotions. The marketing and communications department is looking for students and faculty who aren’t camera shy and who love talking up Missouri S&T. RSVP is requested at marketing.mst.edu/castingcall.

Once registered, you can drop in anytime during the sessions on April 5 and April 7. Here’s what to expect when you arrive: You’ll be asked to smile for a headshot, participate in quick interviews both on and off camera, and then you’ll receive free lunch and an exclusive Miners T-shirt. Let the moon hit your eyes at observatory

The Missouri S&T Observatory will open its doors at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, for viewing the moon through the university’s 16-inch-diameter telescope. Come see the pock-marked surface of the moon in surprising detail.

IT Help Desk to temporarily close March 9

The IT help Desk and walk-in center will be closed 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, March 9, due to a campus technology support staff event. The Help Desk will reopen at noon and resume regular business hours, closing at 5 p.m.

Submit a proposal for Focus on Teaching and Technology Conference

The Focus on Teaching and Technology Conference (FTTC) planning committee is accepting proposals for the 16th annual conference, which will be held Sept. 28-29 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). Proposals are due by Monday, May 1. Submit a proposal. Proposals will be reviewed in May and those selected will be notified in mid-June. For more information about proposals, please contact Emily Goldstein, instructional designer in UMSL’s Center for Teaching and Learning, or Dr. Irina Ivliyeva, associate professor of arts, languages and philosophy at Missouri S&T.

Miner Golf Course to close Feb. 28

The Miner Golf Course will close at the end of the current season, which concludes on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The closure will result in a cost savings for Missouri S&T and allow student activity fees currently dedicated for golf course operations to be redirected to recreational facilities that are of greater interest to students — something Missouri S&T students have requested.
