Lunch and learn for students to focus on working with policy, government

Students are invited to learn the many paths to meaningful work and policy development during a brown bag lunch presentation titled “Pathways to work in Policy Development and Government Relations” at noon Tuesday, April 18, in the Black Box Theatre of Castleman Hall. Students may bring their lunch. Dessert and drinks will be provided. Speakers will include:

  • Zora Mulligan, Missouri Commissioner of Higher Education
  • Sarah Spreitzer, director of federal government relations for the University of Missouri System
  • John Mollenkamp, assistant vice chancellor for business services at Missouri S&T and former director of the Missouri Department of Revenue

Sign up for ‘paint and sip’ on Staff Day

Enjoy hot chocolate while creating artwork during a “Paint and Sip” event on Staff Day, Wednesday, May 17. Due to the popularity of last year’s event, sign-ups are available online for sessions at 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Residential life staff members Joni Burch, associate director of student support services, and Sarah Perry, manager of student support services, will lead the class. Participants will create a Missouri-themed picture.

Sarchet seminar to focus on purposeful leadership

Dr. Janis Terpenny will present “Essential Elements for Thoughtful, Purposeful Leadership” 3-4 p.m. Monday, April 17, in Room 207 of the Computer Science Building as part of the Bernard Sarchet Graduate Seminar Series. A reception will follow on the second floor atrium of the Engineering Management Building. Terpenny is the Peter andAngela Dal Pezzo Chair and department head of the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State University in University Park. The Sarchet Seminar Series at Missouri S&T is sponsored by engineering management and systems engineering.

Learn about the sense of belonging at diversity lecture April 11

The campus community is invited to a free lecture by internationally recognized diversity scholar Dr. Terrell Strayhorn at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 11. Strayhorn will discuss results of research into the sense of belonging and why colleges and universities should care in a lecture titled “Inalienable Rights: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Belonging.” After the lecture, Strayhorn will conduct informal conversations with faculty, staff, students and alumni.
