Go blue for Autism Awareness Day on April 19

Promote autism awareness and autism acceptance by wearing the color blue Wednesday, April 19. The Havener Center will “Light It Up Blue” as part of the celebration and blue balloons will demonstrate support across campus. April is National Autism Awareness Month. The counseling, disability and student wellness staff encourages students, staff and faculty to celebrate and show support for the individuals in our lives and on our campus that have a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The zombies are back

Don’t be alarmed if you see zombies — or humans — on campus this week. An S&T organization, Humans vs. Zombies, is hosting a series of games about mock-apocalyptic survival this week, beginning today (Monday, April 17) and running through Saturday, April 22. The organization will also host ZED Talks 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in Room 103 Engineering Management. Professors will speak about interesting developments related — even if tangentially — to zombies.

Check out the Experimental Mine at open house

Missouri S&T’s Experimental Mine will be open to students, faculty and staff 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 19. The open house will include a free lunch provided by Buckley Powder, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and transportation to and from Havener Center and the mine. Activities will include mine tours, organization booths, gold panning, mine rescue practices, raffle and explosives demonstrations.

Shirt sales to benefit Special Olympics

University Police is a proud supporter of the Special Olympics Missouri. As a fundraiser, the police department is selling 2017 Special Olympics torch run T-shirts. The shirts cost $15 for short-sleeve shirts, sizes medium and large for youth and ranging from small to 2XL for adults. Short-sleeve shirts for sizes 3XL to 6XL cost $20. Long-sleeve shirts, ranging in adult sizes from small to 2X, cost $20. To purchase a shirt, please contact University Police Lt. Oscar Kemp by email or call 341-4300. Cash and checks only will be accepted. Make checks payable to SOMO (Special Olympics Missouri).
