Missouri senator to speak at S&T

Sigma Phi Epsilon will host a presentation by Missouri Sen. Mike Kehoe, R-Jefferson City, 7-8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in St. Pat’s A Ballroom of the Havener Center. Kehoe will speak about opportunity and how it has shaped his life. Since 2010, Kehoe has represented the 6th Senate District, encompassing seven central Missouri counties.

Schonberg named Fulbright distinguished chair in Australia

His appointment begins in January 2019 at the Defence Science and Technology Group, a government agency in Melbourne, Australia.

Libre receives President’s Award for Innovative Teaching

University of Missouri System President Mun Choi presented Dr. Nicolas Libre with the President’s Award for Innovative Teaching at a faculty meeting March 22. Libre is an assistant teaching professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, and the first recipient of 10 awards that the president will give in 2018.

Prize goes to Pope for essay on fake news in 1700s

Dr. Justin Pope, assistant professor of history and political science, has won The John M. Murrin Prize for the best essay published in Early American Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal in 2017. His winning essay, “Inventing an Indian Slave Conspiracy on Nantucket, 1738,” was published in the Summer 2017 issue. The prize will be presented to Pope at a ceremony at the University of Pennsylvania in May.

S&T’s big data program ranks second in nation

Missouri S&T ranks No. 2 out of 50 well-known colleges for its big data programs by College Choice, placing S&T up top between Carnegie Mellon and Johns Hopkins universities. Missouri S&T’s business and information technology program offers studies in business and management systems, and information science and technology.
