Water seminar to cover sustainability

The St. Louis section of the Environment Water Resources Institute (EWRI) will host its eighth webinar jointly sponsored by Missouri S&T’s civil engineering department 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21. Dr. Larry Mays, professor of civil, environmental and sustainable engineering at Arizona State University, will present “Water Resources Sustainability, Traditional Knowledge, and the Developing World.” Mays earned bachelor of science and master of science degrees in civil engineering from Missouri S&T in 1970 and 1971, respectively. This presentation is free to the public and will be held at the U.S. Geological Survey Main Conference Room at 1400 Independence Road in Rolla.

LEAD to offer tutoring sessions

The Learning Enhancement Across Disciplines (LEAD) program provides free walk-in tutoring and faculty-led learning centers in over 60 courses this semester. LEAD sessions are available for all the introductory courses in math, chemistry, physics and computer science. Several other learning centers are in full operation across campus. Tell students to check out the updated, easy-to-read LEAD schedule at lead.mst.edu/schedule to see if assistance is offered in their courses.

Celebrate IEEE Day at S&T

The Curtis Laws Wilson Library will host a representative from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to talk about what IEEE is and how to use library database IEEE Xplore effectively. Sunday is S&T Make A Wish Day at the Ballpark

Sunday, April 10, is Make A Wish Day at the Missouri S&T Baseball Field. Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to join the Miner athletics program for a day of celebration of Wishes with a Wish Kid as a special guest and a surprise before the game. Fans are asked to arrive at 11 a.m. Festivities will begin at 11:15 a.m.

Transformative creativity workshop offered

Dr. Iain Kerr, associate professor of information management and business analytics at Montclair State University and founder of SPURSE, a creative design consultancy that focuses on social, ecological and ethical transformation, will hold a hands-on workshop at S&T to help instructors re-think creativity and how to add entrepreneurship and innovation to their classes. The workshop will be held 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in Room 305 Norwood Hall. Breakfast and lunch will be provided; RSVP to hagnid@mst.edu and specify any dietary restrictions. Instructors can come for all or part of the presentation. The event is hosted by the Center for Educational Research and Teaching Innovation (CERTI) and Dr. Kerr is brought to campus by the economics department.
