Disruptive class behavior webinar

S&T faculty and staff are invited to attend a webinar titled “How to Handle Disruptive and Dangerous Behavior: 10 Innovative Approaches to Addressing Mental Health Issues on Campus,” 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in Room 305 Norwood Hall.

This live-stream webinar will feature approaches for faculty and staff to address a variety of odd, disruptive, worrisome and dangerous behaviors they encounter from students. The presenter is Dr. Brian Van Brunt, past president of the American College Counseling Association and current senior vice president for professional development programs at the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management. He will share from experiences he has encountered while teaching and working in student affairs with practical, humorous and candid examples.

Some topics to be covered include:

•             The warning signs and example crisis events that occur in and out of the classroom

•             How to better approach students with mental health problems in the classroom, around campus offices and in the residence halls

•             Ways campus intervention teams can improve collaboration and provide proper intervention.
