UMR in the news: KC Star

Who said a trip with Engineers Without Borders was supposed to be like spending Spring Break at the beach? This from the Kansas City Star:

Bugs crawled in the straw mat all night, every night, nibbling on exposed parts of Allison Poulignot’s body. The 19-year-old University of Missouri-Rolla engineering student tossed and turned one evening, then curled into a ball from the pain in her stomach. As chills coursed through her, Poulignot shivered violently despite the tropical heat that lay over the Bolivian village she visited last summer.

It gets better. Read the whole story from the Star's Christmas edition.

Search and replace efforts ease web transition

If your website is in the Documentum environment, you do not need to change University of Missouri-Rolla and UMR references to Missouri University of Science and Technology or Missouri S&T. This has been done for you. Exceptions to this global search and replace include minutes, archives, vitae, credentials, publications, documents of record, etc. Updates will not show up on your website until the new gateway, and your site, are launched on Dec. 20.

How the name change impacts Mac users

As you may know, the current name change efforts require changes to our technology landscape as well as the physical changes on campus (e.g. signage, etc.). This time of change has given IT the opportunity to reevaluate how Macintosh systems interact with the campus network and with their PC counterparts around campus. As an outgrowth of this reevaluation and subsequent redesign of our standard Mac build, we are now able to offer several enhancements and additional functionality to our Mac customers, including automatic updates, remote desktop tools and a new SFTP client (Cyberduck).

A rebuild is necessary because all Mac and Windows computers need to be reconfigured to properly operate within the new "mst.edu" domain. If you're a Mac user, you will be contacted by a member of the IT Desktop Support team in the next few weeks to schedule a time to reconfigure your computer. Mac users who aren't contacted by IT for a reconfigure need to call the Help Desk: 341-HELP.
