One less surgery – researchers design biodegradable medical devices

Dr. Chang-Soo Kim, professor and graduate coordinator of electrical engineering, has received a U.S. patent for medical devices made of bioactive glasses and metals that dissolve in the body at the end of their operational lifespan, eliminating the need for invasive surgical removal.

The Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development (TTED) at Missouri S&T co-sponsored the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Road Tour in St. Louis on Aug. 18. The SBIR Road Tour is a national outreach effort to promote the non-dilutive technology funding opportunity provided through the SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.

Director of TTED writes for IEEE magazine

The June 2016 issue of IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement features an article written by Keith Strassner, director of Missouri S&T’s office of technology transfer and economic development (TTED). The article, titled “The Value of Ideas – Intellectual Property,” reviews the various types of intellectual property (IP), methods of protection and recent issues against the backdrop of the ever-increasing importance of IP and other intellectual assets as critical components of the economic development mission of universities, research hospitals and non-profit research foundations. The article includes an introduction by Dr. Reza Zoughi, Schlumberger Distinguished Professor of electrical and computer engineering.
