Facilities operations staff members were treated to doughnuts this morning (Thursday, Jan. 24) in the General Services Building. Missouri S&T’s Staff Council hosted the thank-you reception to show appreciation for the work employees do yearlong. The thank-you reception is a new initiative by Staff Council’s Involvement Committee to show appreciation to departments throughout S&T.

The next Staff Council meeting will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the Meramec-Gasconade Room of the Havener Center. Staff Council meetings are open to all faculty, staff and students to attend. You do not have to be a member of Staff Council to attend meetings or participate in many of the committees.

Previous themes have included sports, “welcome to the jungle,” the wild west and Willy Wonka. Missouri S&T’s Staff Council offers a scholarship program to assist staff members who are furthering their education. Full-time S&T employees enrolled in at least one class at Missouri S&T or another University of Missouri System campus can apply for a $250 scholarship. Scholarships are awarded twice yearly, for the spring and fall semesters. The deadline for the fall semester is typically Nov. 1 but it has been extended to Friday, Nov. 16.

Costumes spice up staff appreciation event
The drizzly weather didn’t put a damper on yesterday’s Fall Staff Appreciation Day at the Puck. Staff members came out and painted pumpkins, toasted marshmallows at a s’mores station and danced. Enter to win prizes at staff celebration, sign up for costume contest
Drop by the Fall Staff Appreciation Day 8:30 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Puck and enter to win a door prize. All attendees are eligible to enter the prize drawing and do not need to be present to win. To get an extra ticket for the prize drawing, bring an item to donate to the Greater Rolla Area Charitable Enterprise (GRACE) or the Rolla Mission. Click here for a list of items. The schedule includes:
- 8 a.m.: Drop off your decorated pumpkin for the pumpkin decorating contest.
- 8:30 a.m.-noon: Games, music, pumpkin painting and refreshments (s’mores, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, candy and popcorn)
- 9-11 a.m.: Monster massage (chair massages)
- 9:30-10 a.m.: Live costume contest (sign up here)
