Registration open for SWE lock-in conference

Do you know female high school juniors, seniors or prospective college transfer students who would like to learn more about studying science, technology, engineering or math? Tell them to check out Missouri S&T’s Girls Lock-In Conference. The conference has openings for the April 13-14 session. Donations sought for student clothing closet, food pantry

The student diversity initiatives staff is launching a gender-affirming clothing closet as well as a food and household goods pantry. These services are provided free to students. Anyone can donate by bringing items to the Diversity House from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monetary donations will also be accepted, with all money used to purchase supplies and maintain the closet and pantry. Join student diversity initiatives 6-7 p.m. every Tuesday, beginning Feb. 6, at the Diversity House, to engage in a positive dialogue around topics that matter most to you. Interact with peers and tackle some of today’s most taboo topics in a safe and supportive environment. The Diversity House is located at 605 W. 11th St. Light snacks and comfortable space will be provided. Black History Month events kick off on Feb. 1

You’re invited to celebrate Black History Month with campus events throughout the month, focusing on the theme of “Black History in the Making.” Events will include:

  • Black History Kickoff: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in the Havener Center atrium. Engage with student organizations and celebrate Black history while supporting an inclusive future.
  • The Black Renaissance: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, in St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center. Join students for a showcase of music and art and hear a keynote address by Anitra Rivera, director of student diversity initiatives. Attendees can bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the student diversity initiatives food pantry.
  • Dinner to Jazz: 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in St. Pat’s Ballroom. This year’s theme is “A Southern Taste” and will include dancing, poetry and singing performances, as well as dinner. Advance tickets are $20 for S&T students and $25 for non-S&T students until Wednesday, Feb. 14. Beginning Thursday, Feb. 15, ticket prices rise by $5. Cocktail attire is suggested for attendees.
