Pan publishes research in Advanced Materials
Dr. Heng Pan, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, has published new research in the Advanced Materials journal on low-cost manufacturing of “bioresorbable” electronic sensors. The study, “Low-cost Manufacturing of Bioresorbable Conductors by Evaporation-condensation-mediated Laser Printing and Sintering of Zn Nanoparticles,” was published in April.

Four Missouri S&T faculty members have been awarded seed funding for two interdisciplinary projects related to S&T’s Smart Living signature area. The awards were selected from 13 proposals from 11 departments and 29 faculty members. Smart Living co-directors Dr. Bruce McMillin and Dr. Nancy Stone selected the winning proposals in consultation with the associate deans of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business and the College of Engineering and Computing. Dr. Heng Pan was interviewed for an article, “3D Printing Has Potential to Create Wearable, Stretchable Electronic Devices,” by Laura Panjwani that was published Jan. 18 on the R&D Magazine site. Pan is an assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. In the article, he discussed stretchable electronics and additive manufacturing.

Read More »Rovey earns AIAA Lawrence Sperry Award
Dr. Joshua Rovey, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, will receive the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Lawrence Sperry Award for 2016. This award honors Lawrence B. Sperry, pioneer and inventor, and is presented for a notable contribution made by a young person to the advancement of aeronautics and astronautics. Rovey was nominated by Dr. Lokeswarappa Dharani, Curators’ Professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, for “exceptional contributions to research in the areas of plasma dynamics and space propulsion, and to the Missouri S&T AIAA student branch.” He will receive a medal and certificate of citation at the AIAA Science and Technology Form and Exposition on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016.

Dr. Jie Gao and Dr. Xiaodong Yang, both assistant professors of mechanical and aerospace engineering, had research featured in Nature: Scientific Reports this past September. The article is titled “Ultrasensitive detection and characterization of molecules with infrared plasmonic metamaterials.” Fei Cheng, a visiting scholar, also co-authored the article.
