Grants go to 11 projects for 150th celebration

In support of our upcoming 150th anniversary, Missouri S&T is providing mini-grants to faculty, staff and students planning creative ways to commemorate the milestone. Eleven projects were selected from 31 proposals to celebrate the anniversary from October 2020 to November 2021.

27 faculty honored for excellence

Twenty-seven Missouri S&T faculty members were honored for excellence and achievement in research, service and teaching during an awards ceremony Feb. 13 on campus. Each award winner received a monetary stipend funded by industry and alumni contributions.

Professor presents in Paris on materials research

Dr. Joseph Newkirk, professor of materials science and engineering, delivered the keynote address at the 15th annual Congress on Materials Research and Technology Feb. 19 in Paris. His talk was titled “Creating the Materials of Tomorrow.”

Professor presents paper at plasticity conference in Puerto Rico

Dr. Joseph W. Newkirk, professor of materials science and engineering, delivered an invited paper at the International Conference on Plasticity, Damage and Fracture in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Jan. 7. The paper is titled “Selective Laser Melting of Fe-Co Intermetallics and Resulting Grain Boundary Performance.” This is part of his research with the Kansas City National Security Campus. He is investigating improved permanent magnetic materials.
