Dr. Joseph Newkirk, professor of materials science and engineering, delivered the keynote address at the 15th annual Congress on Materials Research and Technology Feb. 19 in Paris. His talk was titled “Creating the Materials of Tomorrow.”
In his talk, Newkirk illustrated several historical examples of world-changing materials developments. Drawing from those, he looked at several future technologies that need new materials and ended the presentation by calling for better communication between materials users and developers. Without a better vision of future materials requirements, Newkirk says, research cannot focus on timely delivery of needed materials for new technologies.
