  • Stephen Corns, associate chair of graduate studies, is featured in an Engineering.com article about Missouri S&T’s master’s degree in engineering management. The article, “Take the Lead Where Engineering and Business Intersect,” was published June 23. Embedded with the story is a video produced by the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) about Missouri S&T’s engineering management and systems engineering department. CEC names 10 students as Dean’s Ph.D. Scholars

Ten doctoral students in the College of Engineering and Computing have been named Dean’s Ph.D. Scholars in recognition of their scholarly excellence and research productivity. The award winners were nominated by professors in their home departments and honored at an end-of-semester campus reception in May. The recognition follows the launch of similar CEC awards in the 2016-17 academic year for top faculty researchers and those who excel in the classroom. University receives $1.4 million grant for transportation center

Missouri S&T is one of 35 universities to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to establish a University Transportation Center (UTC). Missouri S&T received a $1.4 million UTC “tier 1” grant to develop robotic tools to inspect and maintain bridges and portions of highway from the air or from the side of the structure. Dr. Genda Chen, the Robert W. Abbett Distinguished Chair in Civil Engineering, is director of the new center. Other faculty involved in the project include:

International quality award goes to Cudney

Dr. Beth Cudney, associate professor of engineering management and systems engineering, will receive the Kondo Medal from the International Academy for Quality (IAQ). The award will be presented at the ASQ World Conference on Quality and Improvement on April 29 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Best Paper Award goes to Enke, Kim

Dr. David Enke, professor of engineering management and systems engineering, and Dr. Youngmin Kim, visiting post-doctoral fellow in engineering management and systems engineering, received the Best Paper Award in the application category at the 2016 Complex Adaptive System Conference, held Nov. 2-4 in Los Angeles. Their paper is titled “Using Neural Networks to Forecast Volatility for an Asset Allocation Strategy Based on the Target Volatility.”
