Get help with your research proposal

Faculty members are invited to meet with research mentors from various disciplines to get feedback on their research proposals during faculty proposal mentoring sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays this semester. Participants can sign up for a 30-minute slot starting at 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. in Room 305 McNutt Hall on Tuesdays and in Room 118 Fulton Hall on Thursdays. The deadline to sign up is the Friday of the previous week. Please bring a proposal idea and one-page statement about your work to share with mentors.

CEC names 10 students as Dean’s Ph.D. Scholars

Ten doctoral students in the College of Engineering and Computing have been named Dean’s Ph.D. Scholars in recognition of their scholarly excellence and research productivity. The award winners were nominated by professors in their home departments and honored at an end-of-semester campus reception in May. The recognition follows the launch of similar CEC awards in the 2016-17 academic year for top faculty researchers and those who excel in the classroom. McMillin named to ABET commission

Dr. Bruce McMillin, associate dean for research and external relations in the College of Engineering and Computing and professor of computer science, has been appointed to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) Computing Accreditation Commission. ABET is a non-governmental organization that accredits post-secondary education programs in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. The appointment is effective in July.

Myers earns outstanding educator award

University receives $1.4 million grant for transportation center

Missouri S&T is one of 35 universities to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to establish a University Transportation Center (UTC). Missouri S&T received a $1.4 million UTC “tier 1” grant to develop robotic tools to inspect and maintain bridges and portions of highway from the air or from the side of the structure. Search committee formed for CEC dean

Dr. Kamal Khayat, the Vernon and Maralee Jones Professor of Civil Engineering, will serve as chair of the College of Engineering and Computing vice provost and dean search committee. Jeff Harris, partner with Harris Search Associates, and Tim McIntosh, manager of executive initiatives for the University of Missouri System, will facilitate the search process. Faculty, staff and students attended open forums about the search process and desired dean attributes Dec. 5-6. Additional open forums will be held in January. One goal of the search process is for the selected dean to begin at Missouri S&T by September 2017.

CEC dean’s office main entrance now open

Visitors to the College of Engineering and Computing dean’s office no longer need to use the construction entrance in the east stairwell of McNutt Hall. All visitors to the office can resume use of the main entrance, located at Room 305 McNutt Hall.
