Philosopher publishes on systemic terror in everyday life

The International Journal of Philosophical Practice published an article by Ross Channing Reed in its Fall 2017 issue. Reed is a lecturer of arts, languages and philosophy. His paper is titled “Depression, Anxiety, Powerlessness and Irrational Belief in Unlimited Individual Possibility as a Consequence of Ubiquitous Systemic Terror.”

Dr. Larry Gragg penned a chapter titled “Avoid Advertising the Obvious: Gambling and the Chamber of Commerce Promotion of Las Vegas in the 1950s” for the book All In. Gragg is a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor emeritus of history. The book is a collection of essays that explores five aspects of American gambling history: crime, advertising, politics, religion and identity.

Seven S&T staff selected for leadership development program

The University of Missouri System’s 2018 participants in the Dr. Elson S. Floyd Administrative Leadership Development Program (ALDP) have been selected. American Mothers Inc. named Joan Nesbitt Missouri Mother of the Year. Nesbitt is the vice chancellor for University Advancement at S&T. Along with honorees from each state, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, Nesbitt will be honored at the American Mothers National Convention April 22-24 in Washington, D.C.

Diversity, inclusion mini-grants available for faculty

The Missouri S&T Chancellor’s Committee for Diversity and Inclusion invites faculty to submit proposals for diversity and inclusion mini-grants. These grants will provide faculty with funding to develop appropriate ways to introduce diversity and inclusion elements into existing courses. Up to six awards of $2,500 are available for courses and projects that offer new or substantially redesigned units or significant activities that discuss or promote diversity and inclusion.
