Roesch, Compton shine as renaissance students

Daniel Roesch, a senior ceramics engineering major with minors in chemistry and studio art, has earned Missouri S&T’s 2018 Renaissance Student Award. The Renaissance Student Award committee also commended Nathan Compton, a senior in mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics, who was a finalist for the award.

Coffey presents on veterans program at national conference

Garrett Coffey, student support specialist in S&T’s Student Veterans Resource Center, delivered a presentation at the Council of College and Military Educators (CCME) 2018 National Symposium in San Diego, California, in March. He will also deliver a presentation at the 16th annual Conference of Systems Engineering Research (CSER) in Charlottesville, VA, May 8-9. The conference proceedings and paper will be published by Springer.

Admissions service award goes to O’Connell

Rachel O’Connell received the Molly Arnold Service Award for her contributions to the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC). She is an assistant director of student support services and Illinois regional recruiter for S&T’s admissions department.

Denver Housing buys student-designed solar house

Missouri S&T has sold its SILO House, the 2017 Solar House Design Team project and the team’s entry in the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2017 Solar Decathlon, to the city of Denver. The house will serve as moderate- to low-income housing through non-profit organizations.

Glaser named chair of chemistry

Dr. Rainer Glaser, professor of chemistry at the University of Missouri-Columbia, has been named chair of chemistry at Missouri S&T. His appointment begins Aug. 1. Glaser takes over from Dr. Philip Whitefield, professor of chemistry, who has served as chair since Sept. 1, 2005. Whitefield will continue to serve S&T as a chemistry faculty member and as director of the Center for Research in Energy and Environment.

Student financial assistance office closed today for move

The student financial assistance office, currently located in Room G-1 Parker Hall, is moving to Room G-6 Curtis Laws Wilson Library. The office is closed today (Monday, April 30) to accommodate the move. The office will re-open in the new location tomorrow (Tuesday, May 1).

Check out student art, attend awards ceremony tonight

The Havener Center will soon display more than 100 unique pieces of art created by students in art appreciation, drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art and photography classes. Enjoy refreshments and music and vote for the “best of show” winner during an opening reception 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 30, in the Havener Center. At 6 p.m., join the arts, languages and philosophy department for the Renaissance Student Award presentation and ALPY awards ceremony, which will include awards in film, French and Russian.
