COVID-19 Update: Starting the spring semester

Classes will start on Tuesday, Jan. 18. In a message to the four University of Missouri System campuses on Jan. 11, leaders stressed the following:

  • Vaccination (including a booster shot) remains the best protection against the COVID-19 virus.
  • Virtual gatherings, meetings and events are encouraged.
  • Masks are encouraged (but not required).
  • Stay home if you are sick.

Register for three-minute thesis competition by Feb. 1

The seventh annual three-minute thesis (3MT) competition takes place Wednesday, Feb. 23, and Thursday, Feb. 24, with the finale on Tuesday, March 1. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 1. 3MT is a competition for graduate students to develop and showcase research communication skills. The winner will have the opportunity to compete at the regional event in Milwaukee in April.

‘Hamlet’s Big Adventure’ postponed

The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s performance of “Hamlet’s Big Adventure” on Sunday, Jan. 23, is being postponed along with all of the production’s January tour dates due to the recent surge in COVID cases. A new date has not yet been announced.

Leach Theatre Step Challenge begins next week

Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 11, Leach Theatre’s 15,000-step step challenge takes place 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday through Feb. 17. During this time, the walkways, aisles, and 180 steps in the theatre, as well as steps and walkways on both levels of Castleman Hall, will be available to S&T faculty, staff and students for competitive indoor exercise.
