Prepare for campus power outages

To prepare to demolish S&T’s current power substation, power on the S&T campus must be rerouted. This will cause several power outages to occur over the next two weeks, beginning Tuesday, Aug. 9. Two new substations will be built, one near Residential Commons 2 and one near 209 E. 8th St. in Rolla. The new substations will be completed by the end of 2023.

At 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, a power outage will affect the S&T athletic fields, the Miner Dome Indoor Practice Facility and locker rooms by the football field. The outage is expected to last five hours.

Over the next two weeks, beginning Tuesday, Aug. 9, there will be two to three short power outages at Harris Hall. These outages will take place from 6-9 a.m. The exact dates of these power outages have not yet been determined.

Wednesday, Aug. 10, and Thursday, Aug. 11, a campus power outage will affect Altman Hall and Farrar Hall. This outage will start 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, and be restored by close of business on Thursday, Aug. 11.

A power outage affecting the Computer Science Building and Straumanis-James Hall is scheduled for Aug. 15-29. The exact date and time of this outage has not been determined.  

There will also be a power outage that affects the General Services Building in the upcoming weeks. The exact date and time of this outage has not been determined.

There will also be a campuswide power outage in early September. The exact date and time of this outage has not been determined. All other outages will be completed before the campuswide outage.
