Miner Challenge Alternative Spring Break is selling homemade cookie dough to raise money to send four teams to serve across the country and to Nicaragua. Chocolate chip and peanut butter are $10 for a 40-ounce bucket, and sugar cookies are $8 for a 40-ounce bucket. The final session of the 2013 Curators’ Teaching Summit “Tackling Emerging Student Issues in the Classroom,” will be held noon-1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in the Missouri and Ozark rooms of the Havener Center, featuring Missouri S&T’s Curators’ Teaching Professors.

Many people experience the first symptoms of depression during their college years. Unfortunately, many college students who have depression aren’t getting the help they need. Are you having difficulty paying attention and staying focused in class? See if depression could be the cause by taking an anonymous screening anytime from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the Havener atrium, provided free of cost by counseling, disability support and student wellness with the assistance of Joe’s Peers.

Faculty Research, Teaching, Service and Achievement awards are due to Dedie Wilson in the office of the vice provost for academic affairs by Friday, Nov. 1. The submission format consists of one signed hard copy and one electronic copy (single .pdf file) of the nomination.

The eight-week fall 2013 faculty and staff golf league at the Miners’ Golf Course concluded on Oct. 22. There were 21 participants from various departments separated into three-person teams, with seven substitutes. The league had good weather during the majority of rounds.

The undergraduate advising office is seeking current Missouri S&T students for the On-Track student success program. They should have sophomore to senior status with at least 2.5 a GPA. Selected mentors will receive training the first week of the spring 2014 semester. Mentors will develop and gain leadership opportunities and could work up to 10 hours per week. Interested applicants should visit advising.mst.edu/ontrack/mentors. There are only four positions available.

The leaves are changing and there is a place to take in the fall colors right in Rolla: the Miners’ Golf Course located on 10th Street. Whether you golf or not, visit the course and spend a little time in nature. Walkers and browsers are always welcome.
