Library book sale Feb. 11

Curtis Laws Wilson Library will hold a book sale 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, in the lobby of the library. Paperbacks will be $0.50 and soft covers will be $1, hard covers will be $2. The library will also sell folio maps for $4. Come in and check out hundreds of items at unbeatable prices. This sale will be held at 400 W. 14th Street. You cannot park right at the building, so be prepared to park on city street parking spaces and walk to the building.

University Advancement earns 11 CASE awards

The University Advancement division earned 11 awards out of over 400 submissions during the CASE District VI conference, held Jan. 24-26 in Kansas City, Missouri. The division received four gold awards, two silver awards and five bronze awards for projects ranging from graphic design and news writing to video and photography.

Materials science and engineering recognized by AFS

The materials science and engineering department won the Group Service Award from the Cast Iron Division of the American Foundry Society. The award, which recognizes Missouri S&T for its years of dedication and service, will be presented on Sunday, April 17, at the 120th Metalcasting Congress in Minneapolis.

Das to co-chair SMARTCOMP 2016

Dr. Sajal Das, chair and professor of computer science and the Daniel C. St. Clair Endowed Chair in computer science, will serve as co-chair of the second IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP 2016). The conference will be held May 18-20 in St. Louis. This year’s theme will be “Smart Living through Computing.”

Stanley earns IEEE award

Dr. Joe Stanley, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, recently earned the 2015 Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Outstanding Educator Award for the St. Louis Region. Stanley received the award at the IEEE St. Louis Section Winter Social and Annual Awards Program at The Engineering Club of St. Louis on Dec. 12.

Four students attend RA conference

Ali Emily, a sophomore in applied mathematics from Hillsboro, Missouri; Sanje Brothers, a senior in engineering management from St. Louis; Sean Malinee, a senior in mechanical engineering from St. Charles, Missouri; and Emily Karr, a senior in computer science from St. Charles, Missouri, recently attended the University of Northern Iowa’s 2016 Resident Assistant Conference. Ali Emily and Emily Karr both presented at the conference, which was held Jan. 29-31. Tera Humphrey, student service coordinator I in residential life, accompanied the students on the trip. During the trip, the students participated in a political rally for democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders.
