Faculty, staff and friends golf league
The Missouri S&T faculty, staff and friends golf league will begin play at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Miners’ Golf Course. The league welcomes players of all abilities from beginners to experienced. The tournament is a scramble format, which makes it easier for beginning golfers and players with limited skills to enjoy the game. The league will play every Tuesday for eight weeks, with makeup games for rainouts held the following Thursday. There will be a couple of changes for the fall 2014 league:

Improve your resume, elevator speech, appropriate dress, interviewing, dinner etiquette and other fundamental aspects of the business world through fun activities. Students planning to attend the career opportunities and employer relations boot camp must sign up to attend by going to your local complex front desk and ask for a sign-up sheet. Beat out the competition at the next career fair. Training starts 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in the Thomas Jefferson Residence Hall south lounge.

A free and confidential alcohol screening will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, in the Havener Center atrium. Sixty-eight percent of S&T students have between zero and four drinks when they party with friends. The event is sponsored by counseling, disability support and student wellness.
Read More »RMU asks to reduce electrical usage
Rolla Municipal Utilities has asked the campus to try to reduce electrical usage 2-6 p.m. today (Monday, Aug. 25). Utilities officials expect these to be peak electrical usage periods. They don’t want any reduction to be disruptive to the normal course of business, but appreciate efforts to eliminate unneeded loads.

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2, Writing Center tutors will be available to help undergraduate students with all types of writing. Encourage students to take advantage of this resource by inviting Writing Center staff to make 10-minute class presentations explaining how the tutors can help.

Students and faculty requiring alternate test times, make-up exams or other testing arrangements are asked to notify the Testing Center at least seven business days before the test date. The Testing Center will no longer accept same-day testing requests. Students must make arrangements with both faculty and the Testing Center.

The “S&Tconnect Advising Software” development session will be held noon-1:30 p.m. Sept. 15, in Room 208 Norwood Hall. The session will be presented by Rachel Morris, assistant to the vice provost for undergraduate studies, and Tyrone Davidson, director of undergraduate advising.

Dr. Henry Wiebe, vice provost of global learning for Missouri S&T, has announced that he will retire from the position effective Sept. 1. Wiebe has served as vice provost of global learning since February 2003.

The Collegiate Readership Program, sponsored by USA Today, offers free newspapers to students at Missouri S&T. USA Today and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch are available Monday through Friday at several locations on campus, including the Havener Center, Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall and six locations in the residence halls.

In an effort to promote safety on campus, the Missouri S&T Police Department will reward students who obey pedestrian traffic laws.
