Missouri S&T will conduct a test of its emergency mass notification system at noon Wednesday, Sept. 24. The test will include a text message to students and employees saying, “This is a test of the Missouri S&T emergency mass notification system. This is only a test.” The test will also include voice and email alerts.

Did you know that Missouri S&T faculty and staff have an obligation to report sexual harassment (including sexual violence) perpetrated against students? Last spring, University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe issued an executive order regarding sex discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual misconduct that spells out the responsibilities of university employees in reporting sexual harassment or misconduct against students. Executive Order 40 was written to “supplement the university’s nondiscrimination policies by making it clear that every university employee (unless expressly excluded by this policy) has an obligation to report sexual harassment (including sexual violence) perpetrated against students to the appropriate Title IX Coordinator,” according to the UM System news release. At Missouri S&T, the Title IX coordinator is Shenethia Manuel, associate vice chancellor for human resource services, affirmative action, diversity and inclusion. The flu season is coming, and Healthy for Life – the Wellness Program for University of Missouri System faculty and staff – is offering free flu shots for Missouri S&T faculty, staff, dependents (age 12 years and older, accompanied by an adult) and retirees who are enrolled in a UM medical plan. For all other faculty and staff, flu shots are $20 cash or check. Flu shot clinics will be open in October and November on your campus. No appointment will be necessary.

Graduate studies would like to invite students and faculty to learn how to use iThenticate and EndNote at a seminar to be held at noon Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the Turner Room of the Havener Center. Experts from education technology and the Curtis Laws Wilson Library will present the content matching tool iThenticate and the content management tool EndNote. These programs can help students and faculty write better papers and maintain academic honesty. Please feel free to bring your lunch to the seminar.

Instructors are invited to “Extreme Syllabus Makeover: A Faculty Learning Event” noon-1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in the Meramec-Gasconade Room of the Havener Center. Patty Frisbee, director of new student programs, and Dr. Diana Ahmad, professor of history, will participate in Old Iron Works Days noon-5 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12, at Maramec Spring Park in St. James, Missouri. Frisbee, a 30-year veteran of the event, will demonstrate the classic American art of cornhusk doll making. Ahmad, a first-timer at the event, will tell stories about animals and pioneers who crossed the continent on the Oregon and California Trails. Come see them and the dozens of other participants and enjoy a great day in the 19th century. The event is located at Maramec Spring Park, six miles southeast of St. James, on Hwy. 8.
