Engineering project management seminar Oct. 5

Dr. Simon Philbin, director of program management at Imperial College London, will give the inaugural Bernie Sarchet Graduate Seminar Series lecture at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, in Room 213 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Philbin’s presentation is titled “Insights from Managing Complex Research, Technology, and Engineering Projects in Academia.” This event is presented by the engineering management and systems engineering department.

CIES seminar to cover cement compositions

The Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies (CIES) invites the campus community to attend a research seminar at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in Room 206 McNutt Hall. The seminar with feature two speakers. Dr. Aditya Kumar, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, will present “Understanding Reaction Processes and Composition-Structure-Property Relations in Traditional and Novel Sustainable Cementitious Formulations,” and Dr. Thomas Schuman, professor of chemistry, will present “Creating Polymer-Aggregate Interfaces in Cement Composite.” Refreshments will be served. Parker Hall basement AC off tomorrow

Learn to maximize your citation count

Curtis Laws Wilson Library will host a workshop for faculty on maximizing citation count at noon Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the library. Methods that will be discussed include your research identity, picking the right journal, and ways to share and promote your work. Lunch will be provided. Registration is required; register online.

Dogs in the library

Evidence of bed bugs was found in a book in the Curtis Laws Wilson Library. As a precaution, a team from PrestoX Pest Control will be on campus with specially trained dogs to thoroughly inspect the facility. The inspection began Monday, Sept. 28, and is expected to be completed by the end of the week. The inspection process won’t impact regular library operations. The campus community is invited to attend the 2015 Service Learning Symposium which will be held 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in St. Pat’s Ballroom A and B of the Havener Center. The symposium on service learning is a chance for the University of Missouri System and community partners to come together to learn what each other are doing and to build strong relationships.
