Memorial service for Roy Soper Jr.

Roy Soper Jr., former mechanical trades specialist-plumber in physical facilities, died Saturday, March 5. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at Cook Station Community Center on Spring Lane in Cook Station, Missouri. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri.

Soper joined the Missouri S&T staff in August 1978 and retired in September 2010.

S&T observatory to host two viewings tonight

The Missouri S&T observatory will open its doors at 8:30 p.m. today (Monday, March 14) to view the transit of Jupiter’s largest moons, Io and Europa, across the surface of the planet through a small refractor telescope. When you retire from S&T, please do not throw your things away. Consider giving them to the university archives. The archives would be excited to receive your lecture notes, photographs (hopefully identified), memorabilia and other such items. Flags at half-staff until sunset March 11

By order of U.S. President Barack Obama, all flags at all public buildings and grounds will be flown at half-staff in honor of former first lady Nancy Reagan, who died Sunday, March 6. The order shall remain in effect until sunset on the date of her interment, which will be Friday, March 11.

Air Force ROTC earns Commander’s Cup

Congratulations to Air Force ROTC Detachment 442 for earning the Missouri Air Force ROTC Commander’s Cup. On Saturday, March 5, the cadets of Det. 442 traveled to the University of Missouri-Columbia to compete in the second annual Commander’s Cup with Mizzou’s Detachment 440.
