Blood drive features May the Fourth theme
The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks is holding a blood drive 11 a.m.-5 p.m on Star Wars Day (today, May 4) and Friday, May 5, in St. Pat’s C and the Missouri-Ozarks Room of the Havener Center. The theme is “Give Blood: May the Fourth be With You.” All participants will receive a free T-shirt. All blood types are needed. Blood types O-negative and A-positive are in extremely short supply. The event is sponsored by Student Council.

Children ages 4 and older can take swimming lessons from the Miner Swim Team June 5-15 or June 19-29 at the S&T pool in the Gale Bullman Building. Signup sheets are available online. The cost of the lessons is $85 per swimmer. Eight 30-minute sessions will run from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday of those two weeks. Session preference is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Missouri S&T community is invited to volunteer at a clean-up day Saturday, May 6, to help recent flood victims. Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the Dairy Hut in Eminence, Missouri. Please wear good boots and gloves that you do not mind getting muddy, and bring tools such as chainsaws, shovels, wheelbarrows and buckets. Beginning Monday, May 15, the Leach Theatre Box Office will begin its summer office hours. The summer box office hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Regular box office hours will resume Monday, Aug. 21.

Dr. Christopher Maples, president emeritus of the Oregon Institute of Technology, has been named interim chancellor of Missouri S&T. University of Missouri System President Mun Choi announced the appointment Friday, April 28, during the UM System Board of Curators meeting on S&T’s campus.

Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader presented an update of Missouri S&T’s Campus Master Plan to the University of Missouri System Board of Curators during the board’s meeting at S&T on April 27. Highlights of the plan include:
- improved athletics facilities
- a new clearly defined “arrival district” off of U.S. Highway 63
- student housing
- academic districts
- continued growth of corporate partnerships with further development of Innovation Park
Open forum planned today for CEC dean candidate
The campus community is invited to an open forum with Dr. Richard Wlezien 3-4 p.m. today (Monday, May 1), in Room 204 McNutt Hall. The candidate will participate in a question-and-answer session with CEC faculty at 5 p.m. in Room 315 Butler-Carlton Hall. After the forum, please share your feedback at ceccandidate.mst.edu. Read More »Road closures cause traffic increase in Rolla
Because of road closures due to flooding, traffic has been rerouted and is heavier than usual through Rolla. Check the Missouri Department of Transportation travel website, http://traveler.modot.org/map/, for updates on road closures and conditions. University Police reminds the campus community to avoid low-water crossings during periods of flooding. Just a few inches of water can be enough to carry a vehicle off the road. Turn around, don’t drown.
