The S&T Store is selling “Total Eclipse” T-shirts to commemorate a complete solar eclipse of the sun on the first day of S&T classes, Monday, Aug. 21. With an expected duration of 90 minutes, Rolla will be in the area where the eclipse will last the longest along its entire path.

Testing Center thanks campus community

The Testing Center staff thanks all faculty, staff and students who helped make finals week successful. The Testing Center prepared for and administered more than 400 exams for the spring semester and could not have done it without help from everyone on campus. The testing center is observing its summer hours, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning today, Monday, May 15. Saturday hours are available; contact the center for dates and times. Open forums on proposed budget plan set for May 16

In response to reductions in state funding and an anticipated drop in international student enrollment, Missouri S&T plans to reduce expenditures for fiscal year 2018, which begins July 1, in order to balance the budget. Open forums to discuss details of the proposed plan will be held 9-11 a.m. and 2:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, in Room 125 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Read and review the proposals.

NAE member to speak about geotechnical engineering on May 18

Dr. Richard D. Woods, National Academy of Engineering member and professor emeritus at the University of Michigan, will present “Geotechnical Impact of High Energy Construction Operations on Nearby Infrastructure” at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, May 18, in Room 125 Butler-Carlton Hall. Woods’ presentation will be the inaugural lecture in the Shamsher and Sally Prakash Distinguished Lecture Series in Geotechnical Engineering. The lecture is free and open to the public, but will also serve as the keynote address for the 2017 GeoMO Conference. May 19 is ‘jeans for genes day’

To help raise awareness of cystic fibrosis, Friday, May 19, is “Jeans for Genes Day.” For a $5 donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, you can wear jeans and get a sticker to help raise awareness for this condition that affects approximately 30,000 U.S. individuals. While there is no cure, great strides have been made into research to help extend and improve the lives of patients with cystic fibrosis. To participate in “Jeans for Genes Day,” please email Christina Barton, business support specialist, at bartonch@mst.edu or Kimber Crull, communications specialist, at krox93@mst.edu. They will visit areas on May 19 to pick up donations and hand out stickers.
