Winter break hours announced for Student Recreation Center
During the next few weeks, the Student Recreation Center will observe the following business hours:
- Open 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15
- Closed Saturday, Dec. 16, and Sunday, Dec. 17
- Open 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, to Friday, Dec. 22
- Closed Saturday, Dec. 23, through Monday, Jan. 1
Local store to host “Suit Up” sale in February
Missouri S&T’s career opportunities and employer relations (COER) staff will partner with JC Penney for “Suit Up” at 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at the JC Penney store in Rolla. The exclusive event is for Missouri S&T students only. Students will be able to receive 40 percent discounts (student IDs are required) on professional attire and enter to win prizes. Missouri S&T’s Spring Career Fair will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, on campus.

The University of Missouri System is taking precautions with sensitive data by requiring two-factor authentication to log in to myHR starting Tuesday, Dec. 19. As the name suggests, two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of password safety by requiring a second method of verification, such as a phone number or email address, for a user to gain access.

Student health services has seen an increase in students who have presented symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea over the past 24 hours. Low-grade fever and body aches are present in some students as well. The cases are not localized to any one campus or community building.
Read More »Give your feedback on strategic plan draft
Missouri S&T is contributing to a systemwide plan for all four University of Missouri System campuses, called the Missouri Compact for Education, Research, Engagement and Economic Development. All faculty, staff and students are invited to review the first draft of S&T’s plan and provide feedback to advocate@mst.edu. For consideration in the current draft, please submit your feedback by noon Friday, Dec. 8. All input will be considered throughout the process, which calls for final drafts in May 2018 and approval by the UM System Board of Curators in June 2018.
Read More »Power outage planned Dec. 20
A daylong power outage is planned Wednesday, Dec. 20, to allow for replacement of one of S&T’s substation transformers that failed earlier this year, resulting in permanent damage. Several campus buildings will be affected by the power outage, which will begin at approximately 7 a.m. and last throughout the day. Power will be restored to all buildings by 8 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21. Buildings fed directly by Rolla Municipal Utilities will not be affected. Read More »Portion of State Street to close Dec. 19-20
To allow access for construction equipment, University Police will close State Street from 11th Street north to where the street ends near the Havener Center beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19. This section of the street will remain closed through 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20. Some parking spaces in the Havener Center’s visitors lot and B-13 will be blocked. Parking will be restricted on State Street between 10th and 11th streets. If parking accommodations are needed, please contact the parking office at 341-4303. The campus community is invited to join library staff for a holiday kazoo performance at noon Monday, Dec. 11, on the plaza outside the Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Kazoos will be provided. Participants will hum favorite tunes and spread holiday cheer to give students a stress break as finals near.

Gaze upon star cluster from observatory
The Missouri S&T Observatory will open its doors at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, for viewing the Pleiades, a group of stars famed for their beauty. The Pleiades is one of the brightest open star clusters. The viewing is free and no reservations are required.

Missouri S&T’s key shop, located in Room 118 of the General Services Building, will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 20, due to a planned partial power outage on campus. The key shop will resume normal business hours, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21.
