Learn about Move Rolla progress on July 10
Join the Move Rolla Transportation Development District program for a public information open house 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at the Centre. The Centre is located at 1200 Holloway St. in Rolla. Drop by and learn about current projects, including extending Highway 72 between U.S. 63 and I-44, building a new pedestrian bridge across I-44, and realigning University Drive and Bishop Avenue.
Read More »Finance office implements travel and expense changes
The University of Missouri System’s office of finance has implemented several changes to the Travel and Expense (T&E) module within PeopleSoft to improve the user experience. The changes became effective July 1. While they may seem small, these changes are expected to increase data accuracy and reduce the number of necessary clicks by 1.5 million a year. Rezaei receives young scientist award
Dr. Fateme Rezaei, right, assistant professor of chemical and biochemical engineering, received the Young Scientist Paper Award at the ninth International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology sponsored by the American Academy of Sciences June 25-29 in Houston. She received the award for her research on formaldehyde adsorption from indoor air.

Read More »Computer Science bridge to temporarily close
The INSPIRE University Transportation Center, with permission and the cooperation of S&T’s facilities operations staff, is conducting research testing on the Computer Science Building’s pedestrian bridge beginning today (Friday, June 29) and continuing intermittently through the end of September. The bridge and adjoining sidewalk beneath the bridge will be closed 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, July 2. Please use the east or south entrances to access the building.

The City of Rolla will test its emergency sirens at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, June 27). The sirens are designed to sound when the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning. However, they did not sound yesterday (June 26). Crews have fixed the issue and will be testing the sirens today. Do not be alarmed if you hear them.

Be prepared for tornado season
When the weather gets dangerous, do you know what to do? All members of the Missouri S&T community should be familiar the proper procedures for seeking shelter during severe weather activity.
During an actual tornado:
A tornado warning means that a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar. The Rolla Police Department will activate the city’s outdoor sirens. When warning sirens sound:
- Seek shelter, preferably in a designated area. Move to an interior hallway, under a stairwell or a room with no windows.
- Stay away from outside walls, exterior doors and glass windows or partitions. Do not open windows.
- Take cover under heavy furniture. Cover your head.
- Check local radio and television stations concerning the tornado warning.
- There is no all-clear message sounded through the siren system. However, Missouri S&T does send out all-clear messages through its mass notification system.

The office is closing July 2 as part of the university’s budget reduction and reinvestment plan.
